Valletta is the only capital in the world that has been completely protected by UNESCO – and rightly so: hardly any other city has preserved its character over so many centuries. Almost every nook and cranny solves astonishment and admiration. Valletta is a “Grande Dame”, a place created by “Gentlemen for Gentlemen”. Our tour takes you first to the Upper Barakka Gardens. From here, the view spreads over the Grand Harbour and its imposing fortifications. After this impressive panorama you will stroll with us through the streets of Valletta. First to the greatest legacy of the Order of St. John, St. John’s Cathedral, one of the most impressive churches in the Mediterranean region. Behind its simple façade, the Church of St. John’s Monastery hides true treasures, among other things, the masterpiece and only signed painting of Caravaggio, the “beheading of John the Baptist”. Admire with us the magnificent outer walls of the Grand Master Palace – the seat of the President and the Maltese Parliament. Afterwards we drive to Mdina, a former capital city of Malta. This medieval city has preserved its own character to this day. Winding alleyways, aristocratic palaces in changing architecture, monasteries and the Episcopal Cathedral of Mdina tell of many historical events that follow the traces of the Middle Ages. If time permits, make a detour to the famous café “Fontanella”, which is very romantically located on the fortress grounds of Mdina. You will be rewarded by a great island panorama.

Here we would like to visit one of the largest dome churches in Europe, the Maria Ascension Church, also called the Rotunda of Mosta. After visiting this impressive church, we continue to the southwest of Malta. In the suburbs of Rabat are the Buskett Gardens, a sanctuary and hunting area of the Knights of St. John. In the middle of the grove, which adorns pines, orange and lemon trees, rises the Verdalapalast of the Knights of the 16th century. Over the centuries, this palace has welcomed numerous crowned and uncrowned heads. Today the Verdalapalast serves as a summer hostel for the president of the State. Not far away is the Dingli plateau, which, with its steeply sloping cliffs, marks the highest point on the island of Malta. Marvel at the enigmatic grinding/cart tracks in this part of the island with us. To this day they are not sufficiently researched and therefore leave space for speculations of all kinds.
